October, 2002
The new East Grand Rapids Performing Arts Center located in the East Grand Rapids High School, East Grand Rapids, Michigan, opened to a weekend of sell-out crowds.
Based on an opera house model, the auditorium features two seating galleries that wrap around almost to the stage. These galleries are only two and three rows deep, guaranteeing almost completely unobstructed sightlines to the performance. Other features in the auditorium include a wrap-around techinical gallery (lighting, sound, video), tension grid, full fly tower and walkable gridiron.
The dedication event included performances from every musical group in the district, including choirs, bands, and orchestras. Also featured were dramatic performances and presentations by the Superintendent, Principal, and Architect (Fred Gore, URS Corporation).
