Jones & Phillips Associates, Inc. was founded in 1974 by Ted W. Jones and Van Phillips; in 1976, the firm was formally incorporated, establishing offices in both Lafayette and Bloomington, Indiana. Their extensive experience in theatrical architecture, lighting, and rigging consultation was well received by the architects who design buildings with the unique requirements of performance spaces.
The enthusiastic demand for Jones & Phillips' services increased the firms' ability to effectively follow projects in the field. As the business flourished, their services were requested in the design and development of an ever widening variety of places of public assembly.
Ted Jones retired in 1995 but is available to the firm on a limited basis. Continued growth and opportunity lead to the hiring of William B. Allison III as a senior associate in 2005. Van and Bill have enjoyed expanding their knowledge and expertise to include the many areas described in the services section of this web site.
The offices of Jones & Phillips are equipped with complete and current computer aided design and drawing systems. The staff is encouraged to be active as professional designers in the entertainment industry, to participate in continuing education in all areas of the firm's services, and to be active in their community. These activities keep them fresh and current on theatrical practice and performance expectations as well as the forces that surround any project. Van Phillips retired from his teaching position at Purdue University in 2001. The partners believe that it is their duty to pass their experience and knowledge to the next generation of professionals and continue to teach through mentorship and interns.
In the fall of 2001, Jones & Phillips relocated to new, larger offices in downtown Lafayette, Indiana. The additional space allows the firm to continue its growth both domestically and internationally, providing space for current and future personnel and projects.
A list of Jones & Phillips consulting projects now includes almost all types of places of public assembly and a variety of architectural lighting projects reaching as far as China, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.
